What Happens at a Smile Design Consultation

Most patients expect to come in, point at something they don't like, and leave with a treatment plan. A smile design consultation is different. It takes longer, covers more ground, and by the end of it, you'll have seen your new smile before a single procedure has begun.

Here's how it works.

The consultation starts with a conversation. Not a clinical assessment, a conversation. We want to understand what's bothering you, what you've noticed, what you've considered, and what a successful outcome looks like from your perspective. Some patients come in with a very specific idea of what they want. Others know something needs to change but can't articulate exactly what. Both are fine starting points.

From there, we do a full clinical assessment. Photographs from multiple angles, a shade mapping of your existing teeth, an evaluation of your gum health and bite, and in most cases, a digital scan of your dentition. This is the diagnostic phase. It tells us what we're actually working with.

Then comes the design phase. Using the photographs and scan data, we build a digital preview of your proposed result. This is not a generic simulation. It's mapped to your specific facial proportions, your lip line, the way your teeth sit when you smile naturally. The shape, length, color, and spacing of each tooth is adjusted until the result looks right on your face.

You see this preview before anything is agreed to. If something doesn't look right, we adjust it. The point is that by the time you approve the design, you already know what you're getting. There are no surprises at the end of treatment.

The final part of the consultation is the treatment plan. We walk through exactly what procedures are involved, in what sequence, over what timeline, and at what cost. Everything itemized, everything explained. You leave with a complete picture of the process and the ability to decide if and when you want to move forward.
